The operators of an Oxnard mobile car washing business were arrested Monday morning on suspicion of check and credit card fraud, authorities said.

Detectives from the Port Hueneme Police Department, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Secret Service said they arrested James Matthew Dycus, 30, of Oxnard, and Kimiko Amoroso, 30, of Oxnard. Dycus operated Clear Choice Mobile Detail, a car cleaning business, police said.

A report by Port Hueneme Police Sgt. Jerry Beck said that at least 12 victims in Oxnard, Ventura and Port Hueneme have reported losing a total of more than $25,000 after Dycus stole checks, credit cards and credit card receipts from their cars while the vehicles were being washed. Amoroso then cashed the checks and used the credit cards to buy things at local department stores, Beck reported.

Dycus is being held at Ventura County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail and Amoroso was released after posting $10,000, police said.

Beck warned that people who hire mobile carwash services should not leave discarded receipts or valuables in their vehicles.
