Cellular Rules Eased: Private companies will be allowed to offer limited cellular phone services starting in August, the first step toward opening Taiwan’s government-controlled telecommunications sector to competition. The government’s Directorate General of Telecommunications said it expects numerous proposals from Taiwanese firms seeking to offer lucrative cellular services. Foreign companies are still barred from the market.
