More on That Bankruptcy: U.S. Bankruptcy Judge John E. Ryan is scheduled to hold a series of hearings this week on issues relating to the ownership of funds held by Orange County’s bankrupt investment pool. Several pool participants are demanding that Ryan rule on the legality of the county’s Dec. 6 decision to file two bankruptcy petitions--one for itself and one for the pool. Investors also want permission to ask a state judge to rule on whether a legal trust existed between the county and pool investors. Both issues could have a bearing on the county’s legal obligation to pay pool investors 100 cents on every dollar invested. Ryan is to address the double filing issue during a 9:30 a.m. hearing on Tuesday at U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Santa Ana. The trust issue will be the topic for a 2 p.m. hearing on Thursday.
