OXNARD : 5 Drivers Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint

Share

Oxnard police arrested five motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol during a Saturday night DUI checkpoint set up on Wooley Road--known for having a high rate of alcohol-related crashes, officials said Sunday.

Officers said they questioned more than 760 drivers at the checkpoint, which also netted 42 tickets for traffic-related infractions, 18 citations for driving without a valid license and three arrests for unspecified crimes.

Two dozen vehicles were towed from the scene, most under a new state law that allows police to confiscate cars of motorists driving without a valid license.

Investigators administered 19 field sobriety tests during the latest Oxnard Police Department checkpoint, officials said.

The checkpoint was conducted along Wooley Road, just west of J Street--an intersection police said is one of the highest drunk-driving accident locations within the city.
