Outstanding Judges Will Be Honored
The outstanding 1994 Municipal and Superior court judges of the year will be announced Tuesday at an annual awards night sponsored by the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Assn.
The awards recognize judges who have demonstrated exceptional wisdom, patience, wit, understanding and compassion. The honorees are selected by a committee representing civil plaintiff and defense attorneys, business litigators, prosecutors and criminal defense attorneys.
Presenting the awards will be last year’s recipients: Superior Court Judge Frederick A. Jones and Municipal Judge Roland N. Purnell.
Also at Judges Night, which will start at 6 at the Oxnard Financial Plaza Hilton, the association will unveil and present a portrait of retired Superior Court Judge Robert J. Soares. The painting will be hung with other judicial portraits in Courtroom 22 at the Hall of Justice in Ventura.
The keynote speaker for the evening will be Arthur Gilbert, associate justice of the 2nd Appellate District Court of Appeal, who is assigned to the division that hears Ventura County cases. Gilbert’s presentation is entitled “A Thousand Tiny Legs of Error. . .”
