FULLERTON : City Attorney Hired as Outside Contractor

Share

City Council members announced last week that they intend to hire attorney Richard D. Jones to fill the vacancy created when former City Atty. R.K. (Kerry) Fox retired in December.

Jones, who also serves as city attorney for La Habra, Westminster and Whittier, will be hired as an outside contractor, a move that will save about $50,000.

The city will pay Jones $5,000 for 50 hours’ work each month and $125 per hour for each additional hour.

That fee is $5 an hour less than the other cities for which he provides services, Jones said.

Jones, who became La Habra’s city attorney in 1980, Westminster’s city attorney in 1988 and Whittier’s city attorney in 1989, said he is pleased about his new title.

“I’m really excited and enthusiastic,” said Jones, 46, who is also a trustee of the Lowell Joint School District, which includes part of La Habra.

“Fullerton is the kind of community that will be a pleasure to be a city attorney for,” he said.
