A Timely Performance: Which Southland airport has the best on-time record?

For last December, when traffic was busy because of the holidays, John Wayne Airport was tied for first.

Federal figures show that 78% of flights arrived on time at John Wayne and Ontario International airports in December, the latest reporting period available, compared to 72% for both Los Angeles International and Long Beach and 76% for Burbank.

Southwest Airlines, which had the best on-time performance at the airport last year, finds John Wayne “one of the better airports” for getting airplanes in and out. Southwest should know: It refuses to fly to some airports like Chicago’s O’Hare or Dallas-Ft. Worth because of runway delays.
