It’s Not Mudslinging

Share

Thousand Oaks Mayor Jaime Zukowski and Councilwoman Elois Zeanah feel it is time for them to initiate campaign reforms. Bill Murphy of Westlake Village, a Zeanah minion, is appalled at the “mudslinging” and what he feels were unfair attacks on Zeanah during the last election. Maybe Zukowski, Zeanah and Murphy would be happier if they just petitioned the U. S. Congress to suspend the Constitution and more importantly that portion of the Constitution known as the Bill of Rights.

Admittedly, one of the candidates in the last election came on very strongly and chastised Zeanah for her shortcomings. No one likes a dirty campaign, but does criticizing your opponents necessarily make it a dirty campaign?

If candidates want to accept money from a campaign source, they should be allowed to do so. They must wrestle with their own ethics and conscience as to whether they may eventually have a conflict of interest or not. If they do, there are laws to deal with this sort of thing. As to whether I agree with the sources of the money donated in the last campaign to various candidates is a matter of my own conscience. If I disagree, I can always voice my opinion at the ballot box as can any other voter.
