PORT HUENEME : Officer Breaks Leg Investigating Fire
A Port Hueneme police officer broke his leg Friday while investigating a small fire at a home in the 100 block of East Alta Green about 1 p.m.
Officer Rollen Burns broke his right leg after he became tangled in a sliding screen door leading to the patio, officials said. Burns, who arrived before firefighters, was searching for possible victims of the fire, which generated a lot of smoke but otherwise did little damage. No other injuries were reported.
“It was a real minor incident,” said Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman Cindy Bonds. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in less than 30 minutes.
The fire, the cause of which was undetermined, burned a small section of fence around the house.
Burns was treated at St. John’s Medical Center and released.
