FILLMORE : Widening Scheduled for California 126

An $11-million project to expand an eight-mile stretch of California 126 east of Fillmore into a four-lane highway is scheduled to begin late this year.

The widening of 126 from Center Street near Piru to the Los Angeles County line was requested by residents and truckers, said California Department of Transportation spokesman Rick Holland.

“Because it’s only two lanes right now, drivers are more likely to have accidents when they’re passing other cars because they must cross into oncoming traffic,” he said.

Holland said the stretch is heavily traveled by trucks because it is the main route between Interstate 5 and the Ventura Freeway in Ventura County.

He said the project would go out to bid in a few months.
