BELL GARDENS : Birthday Celebration Salutes Cesar Chavez
The city is celebrating the birthday of Cesar Chavez, the late farm labor organizer, through Monday at Ford Park.
The fair features food, rides, games, arts and crafts booths, and live entertainment from noon to 10:30 p.m. today and from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday. The park is at 8000 Park Lane.
On Saturday, a bronze bust of Chavez, who was born on March 31, 1927, was to be unveiled as a tribute to his championing the rights of farm workers.
The bust will be displayed on the entertainment stage today and moved to City Hall on Monday. The bust will stand next to those of John F. Kennedy and slain Mexican leader Luis Donaldo Colosio, both of whom are revered among many in the city’s predominantly Latino community.
