A summary of selected City Hall actions last week that affect the Westside.

CITY COUNCIL

* BEL-AIR LAND SALE--Approved the sale of five city-owned lots in the Bel-Air/Beverly Glen area. The properties, which total 276,339 square feet, will be sold for a combined figure of $33,988 to the owners of five adjacent properties. The smallest lot, which is 5,600 square feet, will be sold for $1,500; the largest, at 84,981 square feet, will be sold for $10,197. The reason for the low cost of the properties, located near some of the city’s most exclusive neighborhoods, is because the uneven topography of the land.

* INJURY SETTLEMENT--Instructed the city attorney to pay $235,000 to Jeannette Feldman, who suffered a fractured left hip as a result of a fall she took on a Westside sidewalk.

Feldman, 76, was walking along the 9300 block of Cattaraugus Avenue on March 3, 1993, when she tripped and fell because of an uplifted sidewalk caused by tree roots. In 1990, the city received two service requests regarding tree roots cracking sidewalks on the block, but no repairs were made.

To date, Feldman’s medical expenses are $118,000 and she can no longer swim, golf or walk for an extended period of time. Feldman and her lawyer originally sought a settlement of $600,000, but agreed to accept the lesser amount to avoid going through lengthy court proceedings.

* JUDGE HONORED--Approved a resolution honoring U.S. District Court Judge Dickran M. Tevrizian, who was recently selected the outstanding trial judge of 1994-95 by the Los Angeles County Bar Assn.

Tevrizian, a graduate of Los Angeles High School, was named trial judge of the year in 1987 by the California Trial Lawyers Assn.
