CYPRESS : Training Program Gets Used Bulletproof Vests
The city is donating 20 worn-out bulletproof vests to a community college training program so that police cadets can practice wearing the protective devices. The old vests will be used by trainees solely to get the feel of them, not for real protection.
The City Council, at its March 27 meeting, unanimously approved donating the bulletproof vests to the Golden West College Criminal Justice Training Center in Huntington Beach. Cypress police have replaced the worn-out vests with new ones.
In a memo to the City Council, Police Chief Daryl Wicker suggested the gift, saying that donating them to the training center would allow the school to spend its meager resources on other essentials.
Wicker noted that last year the city similarly donated 31 worn-out bulletproof vests to Golden West’s police-training program.
