City Seeks Homes for Unwanted Pets

With Los Angeles’ animal shelters filled to capacity, the city Department of Animal Regulation is sponsoring a series of mobile pet adoptions.

Animal Regulation officials sad that the advent of spring, as well as the high number of people leaving Los Angeles without their pets, has left dogs, cats and rabbits without homes. “Right after Easter, we get a lot of bunnies,” said Judy Levine, a spokeswoman for the Mobile Pet Adoption Program.

She said parents often buy bunnies for their children for Easter, but take them to the shelters when they realize the animals require time and care.

Upcoming mobile adoptions will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and May 13 and 21 at Topanga Plaza in Canoga Park. Levine said the mobile pet adoption service had had a 90% success rate in finding homes for pets. For more information, call (310) 455- 3709.
