OXNARD : Maulhardt Property Plan to Be Reviewed

Share

A plan to develop 468 apartments and condominiums on a 33-acre parcel owned by the family of Oxnard City Councilman Dean Maulhardt will be reviewed by the council tonight.

The site, which sits near the corner of Graves Avenue and Camino Del Solm, is up for a pre-application review by the council.

Such reviews allow the council to voice concerns it may have before a formal proposal is brought back to them for consideration.

Maulhardt said the parcel, a long-held family property, was sold about two years ago and is currently in escrow.

“It’s strictly a hands-off thing for me,” Maulhardt said.

“I will be abstaining from participating in the review. I won’t be in the room.”

Currently zoned industrial, the property would feature 400 apartments, 68 condominium units and a neighborhood commercial center.

If developed, the project, known as East Village Palms, would count toward the city’s affordable housing goals.

Maulhardt could not explain why it was not disclosed on city reports who owned the property.

Oxnard City Planner Matthew Winegar said that although it is not written policy it is city practice to list only the names of the developers on project documents.

The names of the owners of real property are included on initial applications but are not regularly referred to, he said.
