In Robert Hilburn’s interview with Elton John and Bernie Taupin (“Get Back, Honky Cats,” April 2), I found it curious that John says he has “always been the person who wanted the white picket fence and the happy marriage and the wonderful American kind of ‘Ozzie and Harriet’ story. . . .”
That is exactly the kind of phony, simplistic imagery that the gay community is trying desperately to live down . However sweet his relationship confessional maybe, as an “out” gay celebrity Elton John needs to learn a thing or two about the real world.
