NBA ROUNDUP : Spurs’ Streak Hits 14

David Robinson scored 36 points, and the San Antonio Spurs won a team-record 14th consecutive game Saturday night, defeating the Golden State Warriors, 112-99, at Oakland.

Sean Elliott and Terry Cummings each scored 19 points and Vinny Del Negro added 18 as the Spurs remained the NBA’s hottest team despite playing the last 11 games without injured Dennis Rodman. The streak surpassed the previous franchise mark of 13 set from Jan. 22 to Feb. 21, 1994.

Clifford Rozier scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Warriors, who again played without leading scorer Latrell Sprewell.

Sprewell was due to return from a two-game suspension for missing a team function last week but was held out of the game because of a sore right knee.

Philadelphia 109, Orlando 99--Dana Barros had 25 points, 15 assists and a career-high 10 rebounds at Philadelphia as the 76ers handed the Magic its second consecutive loss.

Rookie Derrick Alston scored a career-high 22 points and Shawn Bradley had 19 points and six blocks for Philadelphia.

Horace Grant had 25 points and 14 rebounds and Shaquille O’Neal had 23 points and 12 rebounds for Orlando.

New York 113, Detroit 96--Anthony Bonner scored a season-high 15 points and his scrappy defense helped the Knicks defeat the Pistons at New York.

Patrick Ewing scored 19 points in 27 minutes to lead six Knicks in double figures. Hubert Davis scored 12 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, and John Starks added 17 points and eight assists to pace New York’s balanced attack.

“We needed a blowout-type game, which we haven’t had in a while,” Starks said.

Detroit’s Allan Houston scored 28 points, and Joe Dumars got 18 of his 24 points in the third quarter in the losing cause. Grant Hill scored 15 points.

Seattle 125, Dallas 98--Four Seattle players scored at least 20 points as the SuperSonics ended the Mavericks’ five-game home winning streak with the victory at Dallas.

Detlef Schrempf scored 22 points, Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton each had 21 and Sam Perkins got 20 to offset a career-high 31 points by Dallas guard Lucious Harris.

Reserve George McCloud scored 15 points for Dallas, which had won 11 of its previous 14 games.

New Jersey 103, Miami 93--Armon Gilliam scored a season-high 33 points as the Nets broke a six-game losing streak and kept their slim playoff hopes alive with the victory at East Rutherford, N.J. The Nets moved within 3 1/2 games of idle Boston for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

NBA Notes

With Michael Jordan back in the lineup and a turn in the Chicago Bulls’ fortunes, tickets to the team’s playoff games sold out in less than an hour at the United Center. A total of 20,000 tickets went on sale Saturday. . . . The Orlando Magic signed guard Darrell Armstrong for the remainder of the season. Terms were not announced.
