Orange County : Political Survival Instinct

The Orange County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday to formally oppose a state Senate bill that would throw the bankrupt county into trusteeship. An outside administrator, or trustee, would be appointed to handle the county’s finances, stripping local officials of their power to control their own purse strings. The bill, which was authored by Sen. Lucy Killea (I-San Diego) and Quentin L. Kopp (I-San Francisco), cleared the Senate Local Government Committee on March 29. It will soon be heard by the state Senate Appropriations Committee.
