Luc Robitaille had some extra weight as he broke in on goal with 3:34 to play Monday night in Ottawa, but on the other hand he didn’t have anybody defending him.

Robitaille collided with Martin Straka at the Ottawa blue line, then headed for the goal with Straka’s stick, took a pass from John Cullen and scored to give Pittsburgh a 4-3 victory.

“His stick was stuck in my jersey and it just sort of fell off,” Robitaille said.

“I tried to stop him but he took my stick away,” Straka said. “He got a nice pass and I could only watch.”

Straka and defensemen Stan Neckar and Kerry Huffman sent the Senators into the third period leading, 3-2, but Pittsburgh defenseman Ulf Samuelson tied it.

Montreal 2, New Jersey 1--Turner Stevenson broke a tie with his first NHL goal 56 seconds into the third period at Montreal as the Canadiens ended the Devils’ seven-game unbeaten streak.

Stevenson, a right wing, was playing in his 33rd NHL game.

Montreal goaltender Patrick Roy made 42 saves and held his teammates in the game while Montreal was being outshot, 20-3, in the second period.

Calgary 8, San Jose 3--Joe Nieuwendyk scored three goals at Calgary for the Flames, who are 7-2 in their last nine games.
