Wayman Tisdale’s follow shot with 24 seconds remaining Wednesday night helped the Phoenix Suns send the San Antonio Spurs to their second consecutive loss, 115-111, at Phoenix.

Tisdale’s shot gave the Suns a 110-106 lead, and they went on to win their fourth in a row and pulled within 1 1/2 games of the Western Conference-leading Spurs, whose 15-game winning streak ended the previous night against Portland.

In the final seconds, Sean Elliott made one of two free throws and a basket, and Doc Rivers scored, but Danny Ainge and Kevin Johnson answered with two free throws each.

Wesley Person, who finished with 19 points, made a go-ahead three-point shot with 3:37 left, lifting the Suns to a 104-102 edge. Tisdale scored 16.

Charles Barkley had 24 points and 18 rebounds before fouling out with 4:10 left.

Barkley, No. 28 on the all-time scoring list, got his 19,000th point with a free throw 50 seconds into the final quarter. He is only the 12th player to reach that level and get at least 9,000 rebounds.

Chicago 124, Detroit 113-- Michael Jordan scored 29 points on 12-for-23 shooting as the Bulls beat the Pistons at Auburn Hills, Mich.

Jordan had nine rebounds and nine assists as the Bulls improved to 9-3 since his return.

Charlotte 105, New Jersey 77--Alonzo Mourning scored 25 points as the Hornets beat the Nets at Charlotte, N.C., to pull within 1 1/2 games of idle Indiana in the Central Division.

Larry Johnson had 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Hornets, and Hersey Hawkins added 16 points. Armon Gilliam led the Nets with 20 points.

Atlanta 90, Washington 82--Stacey Augmon scored eight of his 18 points in the final 3:08 at Atlanta as the Hawks handed the Bullets their 12th loss in a row.

Steve Smith led the Hawks with 20 points, and Doug Overton and Calbert Cheaney each had 16 to pace the Bullets, who fell to Atlanta for the 10th consecutive game.

Golden State 123, Minnesota 109--The Warriors set an NBA record by making 17 three-point baskets as they defeated the Timberwolves at Minneapolis.

The Warriors surpassed the 16 three-pointers made by Houston against Denver on April 9 and by Sacramento against Golden State on Feb. 9, 1989.

Chris Mullin made six three-point shots and scored 22 points. Latrell Sprewell added 20 points and four three-pointers.

Tom Gugliotta, traded to the Timberwolves by the Warriors for Donyell Marshall on Feb. 18, had 24 points and 16 rebounds.

NBA Notes

The San Antonio Spurs must wait a bit longer for the return of injured forward Dennis Rodman, sidelined since March 19 because of a separated right shoulder. Rodman is continuing his rehabilitation and did not travel with the Spurs to Phoenix for Wednesday night’s game against the Suns.
