THEATER REVIEWS : Traveling Show Gives a Glimpse of Gay Life : ‘Taken by the Faeries’ is a sad, funny, fantastic look provided by two talented performers.

Another week, another play at the Plaza Players’ Theatre. This time, it’s more of a performance piece than a drama.

First performed in late ‘93, “Taken by the Faeries” is a piece that combines dance and storytelling to convey several facets of gay life, as seen through the experiences of members of the Radical Faeries--a counterculture gay organization--and interpreted by monologuist Mark Elk Baum and dancer Tom Sepe.

Baum and Sepe are talented performers, and they have stories to tell--sad, funny, fantastic. In all, it may be a bit more of the gay life than many people care to know--there’s a lot of graphic sexual imagery here--though gays might find much to identify with and open-minded straights can’t be hurt by being given a glimpse into this world.

For reasons that must make sense to somebody, “Taken by the Faeries” played three nights last weekend, with only one more performance scheduled: Friday night at 8.
