Funeral services for Newport Beach Police Officer Robert J. Henry will be held Wednesday morning at The Pond in Anaheim.

Henry, 30, died Thursday morning, a month after he was shot in the head during a struggle with a man who then committed suicide, police said.

The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. and the public is invited, police said. Henry’s family, however, is asking the public to regard the gathering as a celebration of Henry’s life and to wear bright colors to the service, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

A public reception is planned at the Hyatt Newporter Resort Hotel from 1 to 3 p.m. The hotel is at 107 Jamboree Road in Newport Beach.

Henry, who had been in a coma since the shooting, leaves a wife and three children. He is the 35th Orange County law enforcement officer to die in the line of duty.

Henry was found critically wounded underneath the body of Garden Grove resident Carlos Caicedo, 24, in a church parking lot March 12. That night, Caicedo had left a suicide note, police said.

The Newport Beach Police Employees Assn. has created a fund for Henry and his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Sgt. Andy Gonis, NBPA/Robert Henry Fund, 870 Santa Barbara Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660.
