8 Killed in Crash of Air Force Jet in Alabama
Assistant Air Force Secretary Clark Fiester was one of eight people killed Monday night when an Air Force C-21 jet crashed near here, the Department of Defense reported early Tuesday.
Killed along with Fiester, who was assistant secretary for acquisitions, was his military assistant, Col. Jack Clark, said Col. Tom Boyd.
The other victims cannot be identified until identities are confirmed and relatives are notified, Boyd said.
The plane was trying to make an unplanned landing at the Alexander City airport when it crashed near a subdivision four miles from town, said Lt. Frances Sconi, a spokeswoman for Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
The plane, a military version of the Learjet, had been en route to Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, said Lt. Col. Johnny Whitaker.
He said the jet, which had taken off from Andrews, was based in Randolph and was carrying a crew of two and six passengers.
