A group of former and current Northrop-Grumman Corp. employees in New York state filed a federal discrimination complaint Tuesday against the company, charging that blacks and women were targeted and disproportionately fired during the defense company’s recent merger and downsizing.

According to the complaint to the district office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, blacks were singled out in an “ongoing pattern and practice of discrimination by the company” that included denial of opportunities for promotion.

A spokesman for Northrop-Grumman, Dick Dunne, said the company had not seen the complaint and could not comment.
