The Look: While many white-collar types now have license to dress down at least once a week, not many have mastered the “casual Fridays” concept. The ground between a suit and tie, and Dockers and a polo shirt is vast and wide-open to exploration. Here is one comfortable but professional look that can be had for as little as $200.

How to Do It Big: Everything designer Donna Karan makes for men has a special drape that lends an oversized look. Her natural cotton-linen textured weave jacket with four patch pockets is $875. It’s paired with her silk, collarless tuxedo shirt with linen bib and cuff, $195. The pants in a loose-fitting cotton-wool twill are $350. The wide leather belt is $295. All at Neiman Marcus, Beverly Hills. Total: $1,715, not including the shoes.

How to Do It Budget: Bullock’s Men’s Store, in the Beverly Center and South Coast Plaza, offers its own line of clothes called INC. The label’s linen-cotton sport jacket with four patch pockets is $99.50. In lieu of the expensive collarless tuxedo shirt is a $40 short-sleeve, cotton knit, placket-front shirt with four buttons by Mossimo; it’s available at Bullock’s and Nordstrom, citywide. Also by INC, the linen-cotton pleated pants with cuffs are $39.50. The wide black-leather belt with zippered money pocket, $13.95, is from the Supply Sergeant in Hollywood. The sandals, $12.95, are from Thrifty, citywide. Total: $205.90.
