Share

Rabbi Laura Geller, the first woman rabbi in the nation to head a major congregation, was chosen as woman of the year by state Sen. Tom Hayden (D-Santa Monica).

Geller, senior rabbi of Temple Emanuel in Beverly Hills, was honored last month in a Sacramento ceremony. Appointed senior rabbi of Temple Emanuel last August, Geller has served as executive director of the American Jewish Congress Pacific Southwest Region and director of Hillel at USC.

“Rabbi Geller has been in the forefront of the spiritual and women’s movements and deserves tremendous credit as she shoulders her new responsibility at Temple Emanuel,” Hayden said.
