EAST LOS ANGELES : Jurado to Be Captain of Sheriff’s Station

A 20-year Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department veteran has been named captain of the East Los Angeles station.

Gil Jurado this month replaced Ramon Sanchez as commander of the station, which serves unincorporated communities and some cities in the East Los Angeles area.

Jurado comes from the Century station, where he had served as watch commander, community relations lieutenant and operations lieutenant.

“I am thrilled about being at this (the East L.A.) station because of its reputation, not only in traditional law enforcement functions,” Jurado said, “but because of the willingness of the deputies to do an all-around good job, which includes getting involved in the Youth Athletic League and other community programs.

Jurado started his law enforcement career in the jails division and moved on to the bailiff’s bureau. He did his patrol training with the Firestone station, spent two years as a patrol deputy at the Norwalk Station and was a member of the SWAT team.

He also served as patrol sergeant at the Carson station and as Operation Safe Streets sergeant at the Lennox station. Married for 16 years, Jurado and his wife, Diane, live in Huntington Beach with their two daughters, ages 11 and 8. He grew up in the South Bay and enjoys weightlifting and running.
