Region’s Economy Will Pace Growth, Study Says: Over the next five years, Asia will present major opportunities for U.S. exporters, a Commerce Department report said. The department’s study, “U.S. Global Trade Outlook 1995-2000,” said Asian nations will maintain their front-runner status despite an average annual growth rate that will slow to 7% this year after several years of 8% growth. Overall, 1995 should be an exceptional year for U.S. exporters, as their shipments grow by more than 10%, a trend that will likely continue until the year 2000, Commerce Secretary Ronald H. Brown said in his introduction to the report.
