OXNARD : Council to Debate Housing Site Criteria

Share

The Oxnard City Council on Tuesday will discuss what kind of affordable housing it wants on a city-owned parcel in northeast Oxnard.

Council members and city staffers will debate what criteria should be considered in a request for proposals to build a low-cost housing project on the land. The request will be publicized, and developers will have until May 26 to submit bids.

The city bought 41 acres of farmland in east Oxnard last year from real estate speculator Donald T. Kojima for $5.32 million. The deal was originally conceived to relocate the residents of the Oxnard Mobilehome Lodge, one of the county’s worst slums. But council members later backed off that pledge, saying the trailer park’s residents, mostly poor farm workers, did not make enough money to buy the homes.
