Hewlett-Packard Finds Flaw in Some Computers: The Palo Alto-based company said as many as 20,000 of its high-performance computers shipped since October may be affected by a flaw that could corrupt data on the machines. The problem will be fixed free. The flawed component in HP 9000 and HP 3000 workstations and file server computers can set off a “machine-check” message that temporarily shuts the computer down and could corrupt data, though no customers have reported any data problems, said Jim Barbagallo, a Hewlett-Packard spokesman.
