Zdeno Ciger picked a perfect time for his first goal of the season, scoring with 1:41 to play in overtime Thursday to give the Oilers a 3-2 victory over St. Louis at Edmonton and send them past the Kings and San Jose into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Oilers have three games remaining, the Kings and San Jose four each.

Ciger was playing his first game in more than a year in Edmonton after spending the season helping Slovakia win the B pool world hockey championship.

Winnipeg 4, Detroit 3--Keith Tkachuk scored two goals and Teppo Numminen and Kris King one each for the Jets, who won at home with the crowd chanting “save our Jets” hours after a private group announced it couldn’t put together a business plan to keep the money-losing team in Winnipeg.

Minneapolis interests are reportedly trying to buy the Jets.

The victory ties Winnipeg with the Kings and Jets at 37 points.

Ottawa 6, Tampa Bay 1--Sylvain Turgeon scored two goals at Ottawa to lead the Senators to their second victory in a row.
