BURBANK : Firefighters Rescue Disabled Woman

Share

Burbank firefighters rescued a wheelchair-bound woman Friday morning after a blaze erupted in her home, authorities said.

The 62-year-old woman, whose name was not released, suffered second-degree burns to her face and arms before firefighters helped her out of her home, located in the 200 block of South Lima Street, fire officials said.

Heavy smoke was spotted from the front window around 4:40 a.m., apparently from a blaze fueled by burning furniture. Four companies of firefighters responded to the blaze, which was extinguished in about an hour.

The woman was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment. Officials from a local animal shelter were also called to the scene to treat a cat that had suffered smoke inhalation.

The fire caused an estimated $15,000 to the house and $2,000 damage to its contents. The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Friday.
