NATION IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Man Who Buried Pups Gets Jail Term
A man who buried nine newborn puppies alive, only to have their mother dig them up, was sentenced to four months in jail. Robert Homrighous, 41, of Oakland Park, Fla., was also fined $1,000, ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination and barred from owning pets during a five-year probation period. He was convicted on three felony charges of aggravated animal abuse and six misdemeanor counts of animal abandonment. Authorities said he buried nine Rottweiler pups shortly after they were born in January but their mother, Sheba, freed herself from a leash and rescued them the next day. Three later died.
