BRIEFLY : Schools: College Wins Award for Diversifying Staff
Santa Monica College has won an award for its efforts at diversifying the faculty.
The 1994 California Community Colleges’ Faculty and Staff Diversity District Achievement Award for Southern California was awarded for the college’s hiring of minority faculty and for the overall diversity of its full-time staff.
“For several years now, . . . we have enthusiastically pursued affirmative action policies, and we’ve found that the results of implementing these policies have dramatically enhanced the quality of instruction at SMC, “ said Patrick Nichelson, chair of the college’s board of trustees.
Women account for 53% of the college’s full-time faculty.
