Sammy Jackson, 58, television actor and popular country and Western disc jockey on radio station KLAC. As an actor, Jackson was best remembered for his leading role in the television series “No Time for Sergeants” in the 1960s. But perhaps his greatest following developed when he became a country and Western personality for KLAC and other Los Angeles radio stations. In 1980, the Country Music Assn. awarded him its top prize as “Radio Personality of the Year.” A Times critic noted in 1981 that Jackson “has quietly and efficiently established a reputation as one of the finest radio personalities in the country.” Jackson came to consider television his avocation, making a few guest appearances each year.
