Those who suffer from phobias, panic attacks and just free-floating anxiety can get free advice Wednesday when UCI Medical Center in Orange hosts National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day.

“The screening is for anyone who thinks that they might be suffering from an anxiety disorder,” explained Marsha K. Stein, a psychiatrist at the medical center’s neuropsychiatric unit.

Anxiety covers a broad range of symptoms, Stein said. Dizziness, sweating, heart palpitations, feelings of panic, obsessive washing and fear of heights, malls or shopping centers all fall under the heading.

During the screening day, participants will watch a video describing symptoms of anxiety, fill out a questionnaire and discuss their feelings with mental health professionals, Stein said.

The screenings, which are both free and anonymous, will be offered from noon to 1:30 p.m. and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the UCI Medical Center outpatient clinic, 101 The City Drive, Orange.
