MONTEREY PARK : 12 Cities Receive Recycling Funds

Share

Twelve San Gabriel Valley cities have received state grants to finance new or existing oil recycling and disposal programs, as well as to develop private and public oil collection centers, curbside collection services and public awareness programs.

The grants are part of a $7.4-million program sponsored by the California Integrated Waste Management Board to encourage local governments to collect and recycle used lubricating oil. Funds for the program are collected through the California Oil Recycling Enhancement Act of 1991, which levies on oil manufacturers a fee of 16 cents per gallon of new lubricating oil sold in California.

The board awarded grants to 327 jurisdictions.

In the valley, grants were awarded to: Alhambra, $27,098; Arcadia, $14,177; Azusa, $13,470; Baldwin Park, $22,608; Covina, $10,250; Diamond Bar, $17,113; El Monte, $34,854; La Canada Flintridge, $6,185; Monterey Park, $19,183; Pasadena, $42,325; Temple City, $10,110, and Walnut, $9,686.
