LOS ANGELES : Rapper Tone Loc Pleads Guilty to Assault Charge

Rapper Anthony T. Smith, whose stage name is Tone Loc, must complete 100 hours of community service and undergo anger management training for using a baseball bat to smash the windows of a woman’s car.

Smith was sentenced by Los Angeles Municipal Judge Veronica Simmons McBeth on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Rapper’s plea--A court plea of rapper Anthony T. Smith, whose stage name is Tone Loc, was misstated in a story in the May 4 editions of The Times. Smith pleaded no contest to simple assault in an incident that grew out of a domestic dispute.

The 28-year-old Wilshire district resident was placed on two years summary probation, conditions of which require him to complete the anger management program and make two inspirational speeches to students at Los Angeles Unified School District campuses.

McBeth also ordered Smith to pay $1,350 in fines and penalty assessments.

The charge against the rapper grew out of a domestic dispute on Oct. 20, 1993, in which he was accused of using a baseball bat to smash the windows of a car occupied by an unidentified woman, who was not physically injured.
