THE O.J. SIMPSON MURDER TRIAL : Trial Highlights

Share

Some of the key events Wednesday in the O.J. Simpson murder trial:

* SUMMARY: A lawyer for Simpson spent the day trying to raise questions about the LAPD crime laboratory, grilling the assistant director about the handling of evidence in the Simpson case. Once the jury was gone for the afternoon, Judge Lance A. Ito heard debate on two legal issues--the effort by Simpson friend and lawyer Robert Kardashian to fight a prosecution subpoena, and a defense charge of prosecutorial misconduct. Ito did not rule on either issue.

* WITNESSES: Gregory Matheson, a police department chemist and manager, spent the day undergoing cross-examination. He acknowledged some mistakes--test tubes containing blood from the victims were smeared, a shirt from Ronald Goldman was improperly packaged and the bodies were moved before the crime scene was fully investigated. Matheson defended most aspects of the investigation, however.

* COMING UP: Matheson returns to the witness stand this morning for more cross-examination.
