Video Disc Standard Sought: A coalition of major computer firms, including Microsoft and Apple, have joined forces to call for an end to the bitter battle over next-generation video disc technology. Two groups--one led by Toshiba and Time Warner Inc. and the other headed Sony and Philips--have each proposed specifications for a new type of video disc that would play full-length movies and eventually replace video cassettes. The statement by the computer firms may help push the two groups toward a compromise, analysts said.
