The City Council has approved a $361,000 loan to a nonprofit real estate developer to renovate a three-unit apartment complex on 18th Street.
Civic Center Barrio Corp., based in Santa Ana, won the grant based on a history of renovating similar low-income housing projects for Costa Mesa.
“We were very pleased with the job they did on a complex at James and Wallace,” said Muriel Berman, the city’s redevelopment and housing manager.
Once completed, the developer will manage the building at 745 W. 18th St. for low-income households for the next 55 years.
The city has said it will pick up the tab for residents who will be displaced during the renovation.
Berman said Civic Center Barrio Corp. has plans to renovate two other nearby buildings, at 707 and 711 18th St.
