Three high-tech operating rooms and a recovery room have been added to Chapman General Hospital in Orange during the first phase of a $12-million modernization and expansion.

The first phase also included the construction of two labor, delivery and recovery suites designed to allow new fathers to stay overnight with their spouses and babies.

Chapman’s 26,000-square-foot expansion project began in November and is expected to be finished by year’s end.

A 35-bed inpatient unit, a new intensive care unit, an outpatient recovery room and offices for support staff are now being

completed.

Be Kind to Animals Week begins today with the 10th annual Irvine Animal Care Center Open House.

More than 40 animal care agencies will be on hand for the event. Organizations participating in the open house include Greyhound Pets of America, Friends of the Sea Lion, Casa de Tortuga and the Opossum Society of America.

The show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center, 15129 Sand Canyon Road.
