After reading the very hurtful comments April 30 by Shannon Cream and Tony Richland about Robert Hilburn’s Ice Cube profile (“It’s a Wrap,” April 23), I felt I had to write.

Being an African American young man, I have found that any other African American (or other minority) who speaks truthfully about their treatment in America is called a “bigot.”

I am not a rap fan (unusual for a 20-year-old) but I do give my support to Ice Cube. He was able to make it out of the “ ‘hood” and make something of himself rather than ending up dead or in jail.

But I do have to thank Cream and Richland for showing me that America still has a very long way to go.
