CAYENNE, French Guiana —
Two French technicians died Friday after inhaling poisonous gas at the French Guiana launch pad of the European Ariane rocket, the French National Space Agency said.
They were making a routine inspection of the Ariane-5 launch platform at the Kourou Space Center on the northeast coast of South America, it said.
Radio reports said the technicians were preparing a test of the rocket’s complex cryogenic motor that burns a mixture of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen.
