A Westminster School District science teacher has been chosen by a trade group as one of America’s best instructors, a district spokeswoman said.

Loretta Courtemarche, who teaches at Ray M. Schmitt Elementary School, is one of 16 teachers in the country to be awarded the Chemical Manufacturers Assn.’s 1995 Catalyst Awards.

As a regional winner, she will receive a $2,500 cash prize during a ceremony in June, district spokeswoman Audrey Brown said.

Courtemarche, who has taught for 32 years and won the district’s 1994 Teacher of the Year award, is a member of the California Science Implementation Network.

She helped design the science curriculum for students in kindergarten through college statewide as part of that organization, Brown said.
