Rockwell Contract: Rockwell International Corp. has won a $33-million contract to design and build a computerized traffic system in Oakland County, Mich.
Under the terms of the contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation, the design team will expand a traffic information and control system to 180 miles from the 32 miles of freeways that it now runs along.
Rockwell Transportation Systems, in Anaheim, will lead three other companies that are also working on the system. When completed, it will provide traffic controllers with video images and other information about traffic flow, sent through a loop of fiber-optic cable.
Rockwell already has built a traffic management center for Oakland County.
