BURBANK : 3rd Airport Official Appointed by City

Share

The Burbank City Council has named the former leader of a disbanded homeowners anti-noise group to be its third representative to the board of commissioners overseeing Burbank Airport.

By temporarily appointing Margie A. Gee to replace Brian B. Bowman, who resigned last week as president of the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority, the council has three new commissioners against airport expansion.

Like her recently named colleagues, Philip E. Berlin and Jim Gordon, Gee is opposed to any increase in flights that would adversely affect residents living under the airport’s flight path.

“I’m very hopeful this is the beginning of a new day of cooperation,” said Gee, 59, ex-president of the Burbank Anti-Noise Group, which dissolved last year, and member of the Burbank Flatlanders Home Protection League.

“The airport has had, for a long time, a bad reputation for dealing with the public,” she added.

Gee served on the Airport Authority in 1985 and 1986, when she was coincidentally replaced by Bowman. Bowman resigned after nine years, saying he had conflicts with a new majority on the council opposed to airport expansion.

Gee, Berlin and Gordon are expected to serve for up to 60 days, until the council decides whether to extend their appointments or name replacements for them.

All three are active in homeowner groups.
