DANA POINT : Group Targets Two on Council for Recall

Share

Two City Council members were served with recall notices this week by a group opposed to their positions on issues including the Dana Point Headlands and the construction of new ball fields at Dana Hills High School.

Council members Harold R. Kaufman and Karen Lloreda were targeted at a council meeting Tuesday night for recall by the Citizens Help Against Non-Representative Government and Excesses (CHANGE).

The grass-roots group has 120 days to circulate a petition and collect signatures from 20% of the city’s approximately 20,000 registered voters to force a recall vote, said an aide to the city attorney.

Attorney Geoffrey Lachner, who is working with the CHANGE group, said Kaufman and Lloreda have backed the “overdevelopment of the Headlands” and voted last month to approve the construction of ball fields at the high school despite protests from nearby residents.
