GLENDALE : Deputies Blow Up Post Office Package

Share

A busy Glendale street was closed off briefly Thursday while a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad investigated a suspicious package found inside a post office mailbox.

A postal worker discovered the package at about 1:30 p.m. at the Tropico Post Office, 120 E. Chevy Chase Drive, and reported it to a supervisor because it was heavy and bore no identification, and because of the way it was wrapped, Glendale police said.

Police closed the street to traffic and the package was blown up shortly after 3 p.m. An American flag and some concrete were found inside.

No evacuations were required and the post office reopened after the incident.

It was the second bomb scare at a public building in Glendale in just over a week. On May 3, a suspicious package was discovered on the second floor of the Glendale Police Department headquarters and half the building was evacuated. A sheriff’s arson explosives team examined that package and found cookies inside, police said.
