Four-Star Films : ‘Nashville’
Robert Altman’s original and provocative 1975 filmmaker’s dream was to use the wide screen to catch at least a moment’s worth of the immense diversity of life in a certain time and place. His moment’s worth of life is five days of Nashville as the capital of country-Western music, and his collective star is a superb cast of two dozen principals, including Keith Carradine (pictured) as a rocker overdosing his life with moral complications. But most memorable is Lily Tomlin’s Loretta Lynn-like singer. All these people weave in and out of each other’s lives, sometimes touching, sometimes not (KABC early Tuesday at 12:05 a.m.).
